Each issue focuses on a single artist or show, such as Akari Takenobu, Michaël Borremans or Mary Cassatt.
A photography teacher writes personal, literary essays on photography, including a two-part response to Karl Ove Knausgaard's novel The School of Night and notes on his forthcoming lexicon of photography terms. Readers get reflective writing that links photography education, books and the history of words.
Each issue pairs a historic postcard with a present-day recreation photo to explore a building, monument or artwork and the history behind it. It covers modernist architecture, public monuments and urban history with detailed context on architects, patrons and artists.
Histrospect is a reader-supported history newsletter with close readings of historical photographs and archival records, such as the Brandt Warsaw kneeling image and the Che Guevara execution and body-disposal story.
